Join the challenge to do your part in reducing wasted food:
  > Learn how to keep your food and money from going to waste
  > Get a free toolkit for reducing wasted food in your home

When Colin Beavan (aka “No Impact Man”) and his family decided to try living for a year in New York City without doing any harm to the environment (the “No Impact Experiment”), it attracted worldwide media attention. Why all the fuss? Because the Beavans traded their old habits for more environmentally-friendly ones – and figured out that doing so actually made their lives happier, healthier, and more abundant. People started talking about these discoveries, and thousands have tried their own No Impact Experiment.

Turn off your TV. Stop shopping. Eat a carrot. Get on a bike. Put a moratorium on litter. And join us for an action-oriented screening of No Impact Man.

8^th Annual City of Tacoma Bike Swap

Saturday April 30^th – University of Puget Sound in Tacoma

The Tacoma Bike Swap is the largest bicycle-related event in the South Sound region. Community members will gather to buy, sell and trade new and used bicycles, along with accessories like helmets, bells and trailers. Local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and bicycling experts will be on hand to answer questions about bike equipment, maintenance, routes and safety.

We need your help to make this event happen!

As a token of our appreciation, each volunteer will receive a free food voucher to use at one of the food trucks during the event.

Volunteers are needed for the following:

8 am-10 am    (2 hour shift) 4 volunteers needed

·         Set up for the event

9:30 am-12:00 pm    (2.5 hour shift) 8 volunteers needed

·        Bicycle check in/check out at Bike Corral

·        Facilitate the bicycle rodeo activity

·        Monitor recycling stations

·        General assistance

·        Take photos

12:00 pm-2:30 pm    (2.5 hour shift) 8 volunteers needed

·         Bicycle check in/check out at Bike Corral

·         Facilitate bicycle rodeo activity

·         Monitor recycling stations

·         General assistance

·         Take photos

2:00 pm-3:30 pm    (1.5 hour shift) 3 volunteers needed

·         Clean up after event

The Master of Environmental Studies Association student group is hosting its 27^th Annual Rachel Carson Forum at The Evergreen State College in Olympia on the evening of April 21. This year’s Theme is “Communicating Environmental Justice” with Zarna Joshi, co-founder, Women of Color Speak Out; Aiko Schaefer, Lecturer, University of Washington and Coordinator of Front and Centered; and Christy Hoff, Health Policy Advisor, Washington Department of Health and member of the Governor’s Panel on Health Disparities.
