Spotlight on SPSSEG

Salmon have long held the admiration of people living in the Puget Sound. But local salmon populations have decreased drastically due to a number of factors, including habitat loss, pollution and fishing. The good news is that there are many agencies, organization and individuals working to restore those populations.

Olympia’s South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group (SPSSEG) is one of those organizations. SPSSEG works with local landowners from the Cascades to the estuaries of Puget Sound, focusing on fishery enhancement and habitat restoration. They also partner with other organizations and collaborate with local communities, schools, and individuals in order to reach their goals through volunteering and donations. You can get involved by volunteering at an event, utilizing SPSSEG’s education and outreach materials, or making a donation to the organization the help fund education and restoration.
